Learn what the official interview is for
The Royal Marines joining-process page includes a formal selection interview and links to preparation advice. It is one part of a longer application, not a substitute for physical readiness. A candidate should research the profession, its training and the commitments that come with service rather than relying on slogans.
Choose honest evidence from everyday life
Think about a situation where you were accountable to a team, dealt with disappointment or followed through on an obligation. What did you contribute? What did you learn? These examples need not involve extraordinary physical feats. A truthful account of an ordinary responsibility is more useful than a story inflated for dramatic effect.
Discuss the costs as well as the attraction
Military service involves obligations, challenge and life changes. Find out what you can through official information and ask your adviser about anything unclear. If you have not decided whether the career is right, learning more is a sensible next step; it is not a weakness to recognise the decision's weight.
Prepare to listen, not to recite
Practise answering the question actually asked. Avoid a memorised speech that never adapts to the conversation. When you do not know an answer, say so and explain how you would verify it. No private provider can reveal the official assessor's future questions or guarantee an outcome.
Connect research to preparation
If your investigation reveals a mismatch between your current routine and the profession's expectations, take that seriously. Use official information to guide questions for the recruiter and qualified coaches. The interview is not the place to demonstrate insider knowledge that you do not have.
An exercise to make this useful
Write two paragraphs: what attracts me and what I find demanding about the commitment. Ask a trusted adult to point out any sentences that are vague or sound borrowed.
